The Caloundra Chamber of Commerce presented marketing mastermind and host of Australia’s leading podcast ‘Small Business Big Marketing’ Tim Reid at our signature Better Business Breakfast last week.
From years of experience working for one of Australia’s largest advertising agencies, Gillette, Dulux, the Yellow Pages and interviewing nearly 500 successful small businesses Tim has crafted his own personal technique which he calls ‘helpful marketing’.
This simple strategy promotes the human side of business because regardless of the industry you are in, we are all P2P (people to people) businesses at the end of the day.
Essentially Tim wants us to strip away the self-defeating myths that we don’t have enough time, money or expertise to successfully market our business and get stuck into it.
According to Tim it is all about telling, not selling.
This refers to simple solutions such as including a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions and setting up a knowledge centre on your website where you share your expertise with potential (future) customers.
‘Marketing’ such as this, positions you as an expert in your field and provides value to consumers which cannot be recreated through a a traditional advertising approach alone.
A resounding message from Tim’s presentation and the line-up of incredible speakers we have enjoyed throughout the year, is that the customer experience remains king.
As such we must be optimising every single touch point between our business and our customer beginning at their first google enquiry and lasting far longer than the point of sale.
