It was a great privilege to be part of the Sunshine Coast Daily lunch featuring not only economic futurist Bernard Salt but to also have our premiere, Annastacia Palaszczuk, as part of the conversation of our future, which looks overwhelmingly bright.
The Sunshine Coast is one of four Queensland municipalities where the expected rate of growth is significantly ratcheting upwards. This means we need to plan for the future now, and infrastructure to support this is key.
As such it’s crucial that as a region we fight for the funding we need now to ensure that our needs are seen to rival that of NSW and beyond who receive a far larger cut of federal funding than we do currently.
We ticked the boxes in a lot of areas including a new CBD, an expanded international airport, state-of-the-art health and education precincts, though the need for a heavy rail link to Brisbane was made apparent.
Our connections into China will go further in the future so it is time for businesses to educate themselves on how to gain the best from this opportunity.
Our Sunshine Coast is still considered the entrepreneurial capital of Australia with 20% of the workforce owning their own businesses as at the last Census.
As president of the Caloundra Chamber, we support and believe in entrepreneurs which has led to our success and allows for likeminded people to develop, grow and learn off each other.
Finally, the Premiere made a good point that when Sunshine Coast businesses actually believe in themselves and get themselves in the right groove they do amazing things globally.
